Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), to perform duties for systems administration, network operation and maintenance, and Information Technology (IT) security and system accreditation. Provides training to reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein. Duties: Performs duties in support of systems administration, providing technical assistance to unit personnel regarding hardware and operating systems and applications software. Performs duties supporting the management of unit network connectivity and infrastructure and network maintenance. Analyzes network traffic patterns, system error messages, and software/hardware utilization reports to identify and correct problems. Provides Work Group Manager (WM)/customer support, help desk, assistance, training, and orientation in support of network and systems operations. Performs duties for the management of the Information Technology (IT) security program, protecting unit IT assets against unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, and destruction of data.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service of which includes knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to: perform duties in support of the planning, coordinating and administering of computer systems; configure and interface conventional hardware and software programs with operating systems; test and validate system performance, recommending methods to improve; etc. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERALTIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to: perform duties in support of the planning, coordinating and administering of computer systems; configure and interface hardware and software programs with operating systems; test and validate system performance, recommending methods to improve; etc. 2. Knowledge of performance measurement tools, systems, testing, and diagnostics, analytical methods and practices. Knowledge or communications connectivity requirements, telecommunications concepts, techniques and operating systems software. 3. Knowledge of network principles, configuration management, architecture, tools, equipment and interfaces. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 4. Knowledge of IT security principles, policies, products and services to assess risk factors and advise on vulnerability to attack from a variety of sources (e.g. destructive programs/applications/viruses. unauthorized access, disruption of services, espionage) and procedures and methods for protection of systems and applications. 5. Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis. 6. Knowledge of customer support principals, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions and providing guidance and training to customers. Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. The employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate TOP SECRET Security clearance. This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft. The employee might be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate I A certification within six months of assignment of these duties. waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.::2.4.2 or C3.2A.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position. Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members; are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency. Retired military that have active AF Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position) on the application. A military service member's statement of service/certification will be accepted IF a terminal leave form or DD214 cannot be provided. The statement/certification should indicate member's separation from active duty is within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. It must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin, your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.

Individuals selected for ART positions must meet both civilian qualifications and uniformed military requirements.
