This position is located in the Medical Records department of Gallup Indian medical health care facility. The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of medical records technical duties which include the complete and accurate process and maintenance of hybrid (paper/electronic) environment of analyzing, filing, compiling, scanning, releasing information, retrieving and dispatching charts/documents, file managing, and other patient care related duties.
Duties
Records Management: Performs analysis of patient medical records to assure the presence of all components of the medical records are complete. Informs and coordinates completion of medical record with health care provider or department. This includes maintaining an assigned section of records by performing monthly chart audits for misfiled records, establish volumes for bulky charts, replaces torn or old record covers, converts the number labels, and ensures all records are in approved chart sequence order, with new dividers in place for easy access to health information.
Technical Support: Receives, reviews and validates all requests for disclosure from hospitals, law enforcement, or relative agencies; Determines provider acknowledgement by electronic or written signature and date. Conducts quality audits to ensure integrity of scanned images to meet quality assurance and performance improvement requirements.
Makes the final determination that the record is accurate, complete, and reflects sufficient data to justify the diagnosis and warrant the treatment and end results without infringing on the decisions concerning a physician's clinical judgment.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Applicant must successfully complete 2 years above high school Education 2 years above high school OR 1 year of generalized experience Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
GS-05: Education 4 years above high school OR Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assembles medical hard charts improper sequence ensuring all necessary form and documents are present. Scans documents into the electronic health record (EHR). Prepares correspondence for fax, mail, or personal pick up. Analyzes and audits protected health information in paper and electronic health records system form for ambulatory patient records.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below.
For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performs duties related to the receipt, scanning, indexing, and filing of non-electronic medical and administrative information/forms. Processes routine requests for Release of Information (ROI) that present in-person, mail, fax, and/or phone while ensuring identification and authorization before releasing. Pulls, purges, and sorts lists of inactive medical records.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
