Duties
You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes.
You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protections systems.
You will perform standby duty during aircraft refueling and defueling, engine maintenance and testing, welding and burning on fueled and/or armed aircraft, ammunition handling or other special circumstances.
You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as, but not limited to pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles.
You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director.
You will employ hazardous materials response procedures and equipment, including liquid splash and vapor protective clothing, self contained breathing apparatus, spill containment materials, and extinguishing agents.
You will prepare incident reports and documentation.
You will perform other mission-related duties as assigned.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
- You will be required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Experience performing firefighting duties and operating fire prevention/control equipment at a variety of facilities.
2) Experience with Hazardous Materials handling, policies and procedures.
3) Experience performing hazard and risk assessments; and
4) Experience performing basic life support techniques, protocols and procedures, including enhanced emergency medical procedures, detailed patient assessment, monitoring intravenous fluids, performing airway techniques, administering medications.
