You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECH) in the Navy and Fire Emergency Services Division of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PANAMA CITY FL.

Duties

You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will direct water through turrets and hand lines to cool weapons and ammunitions during rescue. You will combat fire or rescue personnel onboard ships in a dangerous environment (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, in the proximity of fuel tanks, gun mounts, or highly flammable or explosive cargo). You will use hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete an initial hazardous materials incident analysis. You will decontaminate hazardous material response equipment and supplies (e.g., protective clothing, respiratory devices, chemical mitigation agents) for preventative maintenance. You will direct the placement of firefighting equipment to ensure maximum utilization in fire control, aircraft crash, or rescue operations. You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Instructing employees on specific tasks and firefighting techniques; 2) Preparing and submitting a variety of documentation such as reports, schedules, checklists, and data files; 3) Performing structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes; 4) Performing crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations; 5) Performing hazard and risk assessments; and 6) Performing basic life support, initiating established medical protocols.
