This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th AFSB, Logistics Readiness Center Maintenance Division.
Duties
Performs journeyman level organizational, DS/GS repair maintenance to end items including wheeled and combat vehicles and material handling equipment.
Performs component repair in the absence of new component parts.
Uses a wide variety of test equipment to troubleshoot, overhaul, repair and/or rebuild components and assemblies.
Performs simple welding to make minor repairs, loosen or cut off bolts, or other tasks in support of the duties of the position.
Performs complete repair of power plant and power train on all types of Materiel Handling Equipment (MHE).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-employment physical required in addition to an annual physical.
- Incumbent must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. on a recurring basis.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain forklift training certification and license.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain Professional Qualifications for Emergency Vehicle Technician EVT II within 18 months of employment. Qualifications must comply with the current standards outlined in NFPA-1071 IAW AR58-1 11-4 d. page 42.
- This position requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the type of work performed such as, over the ankle safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, hard hats, respirators, dust masks, etc.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision: (1) Using testing, measurement, or diagnostic equipment such as dynameters, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, pressure gauges etc.; (2) Troubleshooting repairs needed on a variety of heavy mobile equipment, systems, or assemblies; and (3) Operating equipment such as forklifts, cranes, trucks, etc. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work requires constant standing and walking on concrete floors. Required to lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Items weighing more than 75 pounds are normally lifted with assistance of another worker or with a mechanical device. Requires prolonged working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Requires frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, stretching, and climbing on large vehicles. Some overhead work is required. Requires good hand, eye, and foot coordination in the manipulation of gears, pedals and steering wheel of forklift, motor vehicle, and other equipment operation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside in a maintenance shop environment and occasionally outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions. Work area is frequently inadequately heated and cooled. Work area is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Incumbent is exposed to exhaust fumes and chemical solvents. Possible injury results from falling objects, electrical shock, cuts, bruises or falls. Constantly working in vicinity of operating vehicles or equipment with moving parts.
