About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Duties

Work under the guidance of the Emergency Vehicle Firefighting Equipment Shop supervisor who issues instructions on the work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Plan work and interpret technical manuals and other specifications and instructions received with work orders to learn what is to be done, and then decides and plans how to do it. Perform field and sustainment maintenance repairs, reconditions, or rebuilds a variety of heavy combat and tactical wheeled vehicles such as STRYKER (DVH) family of Vehicles. family of Armored Security Vehicle (ASV). Perform inspections ranging from acceptance, in-process and final inspections to include identifying repairs, the level of repair, parts required, and time required to achieve operational standards. Serve as working leader in accomplishing acceptance, initial, inline estimated cost of damage, serviceability, and classification inspections of automotive, heavy mobile, powered support and allied trades repair. Answer worker's questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., Modification Work Orders (MWOs) and special projects). Provide on-the-job training on processes and procedures to workers ensuring they can meet certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation is required.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being drive or equipment being operated.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicles Technician Certification Commission (EVT) Level III within 36 months of starting position.
  • This position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the type of work performed such as, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, goggles, apron, gloves, welding hood, etc
  • Pre-employment physical and annual required.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.

I have the ability to read blueprints, plans, gather tools and materials to accomplish the tasks required at the lowest level. I have the ability to test components and system mechanically and hydraulically for performance factors such as stability, sensitivity, acceleration, and response. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. The employee works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods, e.g., works on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions, or performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Some overhead work is required. Subject to hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds. WORKING CONDITIONS-Works inside and outside. Inside work areas are frequently inadequately heated and cooled. The incumbent is exposed to extreme temperature changes, drafts, chemical, and exhaust fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in dirty, muddy, wet or icy areas when outdoors. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, cold, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. Typically works with equipment systems and parts which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, bumps, bruises, sprains, strains, electrical shock, skin irritation, eye damage, and hearing loss while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. Hazards are lessened through the use of appropriate PPE such as eye protection, hearing protection, hard hats, safety shoes, respirators and other protective clothing or equipment, some of which may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.
