About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Review project costs incurred to ensure all expenditures are appropriately documented and remain within the department's established operating budget.
Prepare and review a variety of procurement documentation, funding documents, administrative reports, and similar documents required to support program funding and procurement actions.
Coordinate the organization's hand receipts to properly account for high-value items, lab and/or durable equipment in support of operations.
Assist in coordinating organization events which include but are not limited to: cadet summer internships, project competitions, conferences and other events sponsored or attended by the organization's staff.
Maintain Approving Official's (AO) budget by loading funding targets into the Defense Travel System (DTS) budget module, updating as required.
Assist in the preparation, consolidation and completion of a variety of management and research reports.
Maintain calendars for organization and its leadership.
Serve as the point of contact for information on policies, procedures, and requirements on matters pertaining to administrative functions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

GS 06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing administrative support to an organization; 2) drafting reports, documents, and/or correspondence; and 3) using office automation software and/or systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
GS 07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) utilizing automated systems to input, query, and/or retrieve administrative, program, and/or financial data; 2) providing guidance to personnel on matters pertaining to an organization's administrative functions; 3) assisting in scheduling or coordinating events for an organization; and, 4) preparing funding, procurement, or administrative documents such as purchase requests or management reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
GS-06 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
GS-07 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
