You will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist for the US Small Business Administration, Disaster Public Affairs and Communications Division in Washington, District of Columbia. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, implementing, disseminating and assessing the delivery of program and small business-related information across a range of social media and communication platforms including the Agency website.
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist at the GS-1035-13, some of your typical work assignments may include:
Providing guidance, support, and coordination to users, stakeholders, and Information Technology (IT) project teams to maintain clear communications between functional and IT experts.
Assisting with establishing DR&R policies, goals, and operating procedures for the effective management and delivery of technology strategies; monitoring progress, evaluating results, and following up with any changes needed to improve performance
Answering media questions and responding to requests for interviews and written information. Proactively seeks opportunities to tell newspaper, radio, and television reporters about the SBA Disaster Program.
Serving as the adviser to field personnel on media and governmental (Congressional, Federal, state, and local) contacts.

This is a term appointment, which is a competitive service position and does not confer competitive status, reinstatement rights, or eligibility for non-competitive conversion to a permanent job for the individual(s) selected.
Mandatory Overtime: In order to respond quickly and efficiently to disaster survivors, substantial compensated overtime hours may be required due to heighten Disaster Activities.
If required to travel to a disaster site, you may encounter hazardous working and/or living conditions, for example, no water or electricity and/or minimal lodging facilities.

Qualifications
Experience:
To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.
GS13: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. This Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience in communicating with diverse audiences through a variety of communication methods to include preparing and delivering presentations, reports, and/or program updates; and
Skill in analyzing data using qualitative or quantitative tools and methodologies to support organizational goals and/or improve processes; and
Managing social media campaigns and outreach projects; and
Acting as an organizational spokesperson and engaging with stakeholders at all levels to convey key messages and/or build relationships.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.
