As a Supervisory Architect you will be a primary liaison to the national Office of Architecture and Engineering (OAE) and assists the regional PBS production offices by providing highly expert professional and/or technical architectural consulting and guidance.Location of position: GSA, PBS, NCR in the Office of Planning and Design Quality, Architecture Branch located on 1800 F St NW, Washington DC. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.

Duties

Serves as the region's advocate for ensuring high-quality standards in design and construction. Establish, advocate, and facilitate the implementation of quality within regional production offices at all stages of a project. Provides leadership to program and/or project that affects architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, interior design, workplace strategy, historic preservation, public art, fine arts conservation, and urban design, or any other designated system that will impact the value of a building or asset. Defines the overall architecture strategy and vision for the organization, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives. Sets policy, provides governance and oversight, and provides technical expertise. Plans and establishes overall priorities and specific goals and objectives to be achieved. Establishes internal policies, procedures and controls for design within the region and coordinates those controls with other branches within PBS to ensure uniformity and consistency among subordinates and other branches. Responsible for conveying the significance of integrated design, melding architecture, engineering, sustainability, energy, and other technical, code, and guideline requirements. Conducts briefings, discussions, and negotiations with high level agency representatives, GSA management, contract architects, construction firms, and external stakeholders to resolve controversies, promote innovative approaches, and develop consensus.  Negotiations frequently involve major structures having unique problems or requiring unusual treatment. Based on analysis of work requirements and duties, assigns work for the division goals and objectives and plans work based on priorities and milestones; establishes performance objectives and evaluates work performance, develops and implements methods for improving productions, quality of work, and morale; provides advice, counsel, or instruction on both work and administrative matters; resolves work problems. Interviews candidates for subordinate positions; recommend hiring, promotion or reassignment actions. Takes disciplinary measures as necessary, including warning and reprimands. Assesses training needs and requirements for employees, identifying developmental and training sources and providing training.

For specifics on qualifying education, training, and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Architect Positions.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as professional architecture experience in the design of construction or alteration projects involving large and complex buildings or major building systems as well as coordinating the activities of multidisciplinary teams on such project.  Experience must include planning, prioritizing, and evaluating work to be accomplished by subordinates; and providing advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. This position has a positive education requirement: Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date of announcements to verify qualifications.
