Duties
As a Health Communications Specialist you will:
Lead, the development, implementation, and management, and evaluation of major national or international communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies.
Lead or oversee the development and management of contracts and/or task orders and requests for proposals, review of proposals, and the conduct and quality of work performed.
Develop and lead strategies to use electronic health communication and marketing channels to increase the health impact of CDC's science-based health information and interventions.
Direct and guide development, testing, and dissemination of science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages to different audiences (i.e., general public, external organizations, partners, and media) in a variety of formats (i.e., print, video, Web).
Lead and conduct research and evaluation activities related to health communication and marketing.
Ensure that messages and materials are: scientifically valid and consistent with program objectives, based on communication and marketing theory and principles, based on audience research (including concept, message, and Web- usability testing), and targeted or tailored to diverse audiences, addressing cultural and socioeconomic challenges to effective communication and considering the diverse interests, needs, concerns, and priorities of various population segments.
Provide expert consultation and technical expertise in the creation of strategic and integrated plans and strategies for public health communication and marketing programs, campaigns, and activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading, managing, developing, implementing, disseminating, evaluating, and providing recommendations on health communication and marketing messages, strategies, products, programs, and activities for multiple audiences.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
