Duties

As a Health Scientist (Informatics), you will: Collaborate with and provide expert advice to all organizational levels with the agency, as well as with various state health agencies, and partner organizations. Utilize database software, communications software, operating systems, statistical analysis systems, and mainframe software to ensure database and software are compatible with other applicable environmental, epidemiologic, and surveillance systems both within and outside the agency Serve as an expert, providing scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems that require creating new approaches, and standards to be used within the applicable CIO. Implement scientific policies and procedures on informatics practices and principles. Design, oversees, implement, and conducts scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing scientific advice on the development and implementation of public health informatics activities, capacity building activities for informatics programs, and for epidemiologic and other public health information systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
