The Montana VA Healthcare System is currently recruiting for one (1) highly energetic and motivated individual to join our team as an Electrician. This position is located in the Central Utility Plant, Engineering Section of Facilities Management Service Line.
Duties
Major Duties of this position include but are not limited to...
Familiar with the provisions of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 72 and sufficiently knowledgeable of the entire code to satisfactorily research special requirements or applications.
Troubleshoot and maintain electric and electronic control circuits on various equipment including laundry equipment, dietetic equipment, rotary files, electric beds, fire alarm system, tray conveyors, and incinerators.
Possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics and operations and maintenance manuals.
Ability to select proper wire gauges, insulation, protective devices and switching for variety of equipment, lighting, and miscellaneous electrical loads.
Journeyman skill in the use of all common electrical hand and power tools and testing equipment as required.
Must use his/her own initiative on maintenance and repair work to identify malfunctions or non-functions, then proceed with corrective action.
Plans and lays out the work in accordance with plans or sketches, routing raceways in concealed locations, around obstacles and away from existing utilities such as steam lines and other heat producing equipment.
Responsible for providing advice, training, guidance, and assistance for lower grade workers assigned tasks.
Incorporates practices necessary to comply with mandated energy efficiency and greening requirements.
Interprets and applies National Electrical Code and local codes to work practices.
Assignments are assigned orally and through building plans, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and are usually carried out without supervisory guidance unless a highly usual problem is encountered or departure from normal procedure is requested.
Service, repair, or install, specialized systems in their entirety inclusive of but not limited to variable speed drivers, digital control loops, fused disconnects, automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, shunt trip breaker assembles, high voltage switch gear components, distribution panels, conversion transformers, and lighting control systems.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms. Will work in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty and hard to reach locations. The work involves prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally will be required to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
Working conditions: Electricians are exposed to a variety of weather conditions, both in winter and summer, in making repairs and installations on exterior work sites. During emergency repairs, extremes of bad weather are sometimes present. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant orders. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to work in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials. The incumbent will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.
