This position is located within the Maintenance and Repair section of the Facilities and Management Service for the Fort Harrison VA Medical Center and performs the operation of specialized electrical building services equipment, maintenance and repair of all facility electrical systems and components, and installations of electrical services throughout the medical center and satellite clinics in Montana.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on electrical systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities.
Installs and repairs distribution panels, boxes and various electrical systems.
Installs, modifies, repairs and maintains electrical lines, circuits, generator systems.
Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
Assembles, installs, tests or maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus or fixtures, using proper tools.
Uses proper techniques and knowledge of electrical wiring and equipment maintenance.
Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Follows installation, maintenance and repair manuals to accomplish assigned tasks.
Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics and diagrams to determine material, tools and equipment needed.
Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters or test lamps.
Repairs or replace wiring, equipment or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
Solves problems by using electrical formulas for computing voltages, resistances, amperages, capacitance and frequencies.
Diagnoses faulty electrical equipment or systems to determine rework or replacement of faulty components on nuclear ships alterations and repairs.
Troubleshoots electrical operating equipment and systems to determine cause of unstable or abnormal operation.
Replaces equipment (e.g., electrical motors, pulleys, belts) to remedy problems encountered.

Physical Requirements: The duties of this position involve ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms, and often entails portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations. The work necessitates prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. It is necessary to lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry over 50 pounds.
