Duties

This position is located within the Financial Operations Directorate of the Office of Finance (OF), Enterprise Services Office (ES), United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The purpose of the position is to support accounting and finance work that will encompass revenue processing, commercial accounts, travel, payroll, account maintenance and reconciliation, data validation, and accounting system review functions. This position starts at a salary of $44,521.00 (GS-06, Step 1) to $64,317.00 (GS-07, Step 10). Typical duties for this position include: Reviews and processes transactions into various financial systems and reviews data entry for accuracy. Enters and verifies accounting data for routine transactions; reconciles accounts, comparing account balances with related data to assure agreement. Reviews records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies and determines the entries required to bring the account into balance. Performs Level I help desk functions by receiving, researching and responding to basic inquiries sent to CBP via standard mail services, email, and telephone.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Performing a variety of accounting and finance functions to include verifying and analyzing data for payroll, collections or disbursement transactions. Reviewing and processing transactions into various financial systems. Reconciling accounts, and performing help desk functions related to accounting or financial activities. You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Independently reviewing and analyzing data for payroll, collections, disbursements, travel, vendor activity, or other accounting activity. Processing transactions in financial systems. Identifying and resolving discrepancies in the data. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/19/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
