This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Civilian Reference Services Branch. Incumbent performs tasks which are incidental to reference and correspondence services, accessioning, disposition, retrieval, relocation, refile, and interfile of records. Incumbent performs work in the digital conversion unit including prepping, scanning, quality review and document review.
Duties
As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:
Provide reference service by searching for, refiling or interfiling records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.
Receive, read, classify, and route reference requests (utilizing Civilian Personnel Registry systems, electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF) systems associated with agencies using eOPF, and other repositories of OPF or EMF information) determining which unit has cognizance over the subject matter.
Provide Correspondence support for Civilian or public requests for record copies. Extractions of documents or data, such as requests for SF50s, death certificates or completing a form from the record may be required.
Lead work crews in moving blocks of records from one storage area to another, ensures that records remain or are placed in proper order, and maintains and updates file location information. As required, moves emptied records containers to designated area.
Perform document preparation on textual materials to be digitally scanned into electronic formats. Specifically, incumbent removes staples, flattens, corrects bent corners of document, disassembles materials when necessary insuring that the original arrangement and scanning scheme is maintained, prepare required bar code/separator sheets, and make photocopies of document(s) to be scanned.
Prepare and key mail for delivery by USPS tracked mail, UPS tracked mail, USPS first class mail or other delivery carriers as required.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
General Experience: You must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
Education: 2 years of education above high school.
OR
Combining education and experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The total combined percentage must equal 100%.
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
