This position serves as Without Compensation Research Health Science Specialist within the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The VA Research Program strives to promote Veteran-centered care to improve patient experiences and outcomes across VA healthcare and community settings, and to advance value-driven care by providing Veterans the highest quality care at the lowest financial burden. Please note, there is no pay associated with this position.

Duties

Responsible for designing and conducting research that addresses virulence mechanisms in the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii. Determining the role of the SrvS, CsrA and Rho proteins in regulating virulence gene expression. Development of original ideas that promote current research. Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Perform microbiologic techniques, mutagenesis, qRT-PCR and allelic replacement. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Experience: You must possess general experience in (1) any type of work that includes responsibility for designing and conducting research that addresses virulence mechanisms in the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii, determining the role of the SrvS, CsrA and Rho proteins in regulating virulence gene expression; or (2) experience in microbiologic techniques, mutagenesis, qRT-PCR and allelic replacement. AND, Education: You must possess a bachelor or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences. (Copies of transcripts are required at the time of application). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of experience and education.
