Duties

As a Epidemiologist, you will: Perform statistical analyses as part of a segment of a nationwide data collection and analysis program. Ensure the statistical validity and epidemiologic applicability of study activities by solving problems occurring in the data collection process. Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private, and/or nonprofit health and/ or health- related agencies and organizations for specific programs or issues where the type of resources provided, and/or the impact on communities are established so program needs require the application of established scientific and technical methods and practices. Assist in the writing of comprehensive statistical and analytic reports from major studies or continuing projects that require the use of sociological behavioral science, demographic, and/or epidemiologic analytic techniques and evaluation, and application of the latest technology. Participate in the syntheses of social science and epidemiologic data to be applied toward designing effective prevention programs and practice guidelines.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: carrying out a range of epidemiologic and surveillance activities and providing technical consultation and assistance to Federal, State, local and other health agencies concerning various epidemiology projects. OR Have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, from an accredited college or university. OR have a combination of experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
