Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM) 533rd Training Squadron (533 TRS) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California is searching for an Orbital Warfare Program Expert (NH-0343-03, GS 12/13 equivalent). Description: The primary purpose of this position is to take enlisted Guardians straight out of Basic Military Training and provide their initial skills training across space operations, intelligence and cyberspace operations. In this position YOU bring your subject matter expertise and experience in orbital mechanics, rendezvous & priority operations, and mission planning to our Orbital Warfare department. You are responsible for the planning, developing, and the execution of the training program for your Space Power Discipline/Space Mission Area. From the development of subject matter curriculum, analyzing the effectiveness of the material taught, mentoring the military instructors, and organizing the classroom environment for maximum learning you shape the entire flow of training within the Orbital Warfare space mission area. You also have the chance to travel to the tactical units to bring back current best practices and incorporate real world examples into realistic training scenarios. You can pour your knowledge into Guardians and Airmen Space Professionals in the classroom! You will have an impact on the next generation of military space professionals and how prepared they are to dominate in the space domain. The ideal candidate will have teaching or instructional experience, advanced knowledge of orbital mechanics, experience using Standardized Space Trainers (SSTs), experience using modeling software (ex: STK, AFSIMs, Slingshot, etc), knowledge & experience working with Space Domain Awareness operations, knowledge & experience conducting command and control of on-orbit systems (aka Satellites), rendezvous & proximity operations, and anomaly resolution, knowledge of mission planning process at the tactical and operational level and joint warfighting experience. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of USSF military space operations or joint warfighting and understanding or programs related to one or more of the following areas; Space Fundamentals (Basic Space-Domain knowledge, history, policy and doctrine), Joint Warfighting, Military Intelligence, Cyber Operations, Orbital Warfare, Space Battle Management, Space Electromagnetic Warfare, Joint Planning, Force Modernization (aka Engineering & Acquisitions and Space Access & Sustainment), and Simulations, Threats, Exercises & Wargaming (STEW). Knowledge should also include doctrinal knowledge of Space Capstone Publication, Spacepower (SPD-1), Space Doctrine Publication, Planning (SPD-5), or Joint Publication, Joint Planning (JP 5-0). 2. Knowledge of AETC Instruction 36-2641, Technical and Basic Military Training Development & principles, practices, and techniques of instruction. 3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct a small group of individuals to accomplish a project or study. Ability to identify problems, develop and implement innovative detailed strategies to resolve a wide range or programming, budgetary, financial and management issues. 4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 5. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with key individuals/groups within and outside immediate work unit including field, operational, and service-level representatives. 6. Ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, conduct analysis, devise recommended solutions, and package the entire process in briefings, papers, or reports suitable for top management use and decision-making.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret with SCI clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
