This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Health Security (OHS), Immediate Office of the Chief Medical Officer (IO). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Director of Communications for OHS, in which capacity the incumbent will lead the development and execution of strategic internal and external communications programs and initiatives. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Supervisory Communications Specialist, GS-0301-14, your typical work assignments may include: Plans, organizes, and oversees all Communications Team activities within OHS. Develops goals and objectives that integrate internal and external communications, webmaster, and social media objectives. Provides staff with direction and advice regarding policies, procedures, and guidelines. Balances workload and provides overall direction and vision to the subordinates on a wide range of communications and administrative issues. Identifies need for change in organization priorities and takes action to implement such changes. Plans and schedules work in such a manner that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution and ensures effective use of organization resources to achieve organization goals and objectives as well as customer needs. Qualifications

Specialized Experience You qualify for the GS-14 if you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service (GS-13) or public/private sector equivalent experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Directs a program segment that performs complex administrative and program work. Oversees the Communications Team within the OHS Immediate Office. Programs and projects run the gamut from traditional to highly complex state-of-the-art and are subject to a high degree of attention by DHS, the media, and in the area of public debate and discussion over the organization's mission and goals. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary.
