Duties

Serves as Station Chief at Blue Grass Army Depot, providing Fire and Emergency Services for all post structures, facilities and personnel. Directs assigned crew members during responses to fires, hazardous spills/leaks, emergency medical incidents, mutual aid emergencies. Provides basic life support treatment to include stabilizing and treating a wide variety of medical emergencies. Ensures subordinate personnel receives proper training. Makes day-to-day work adjustment to schedules based on work performance or needs of the mission.

Requirements

  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis; Work schedule of 72 hours per week/144 hours per pay period.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Position requires Incumbent to be to top physical and mental condition.
  • TDY up to 5% of the time is required.
  • Assumes the duties of Assistant Chief during their absence.
  • The work situations is characterized by complex and highly hazardous fire fighting and EMS operations.
  • Subject to possible burns and other effects of but, smoke inhalation, falling materials, explosion; exposure to toxic materials.
  • Subject to dealing with victims of fire in varying stages of fright and panic; and operating or riding emergency fire vehicles under adverse conditions in congested areas.
  • Is subject to recall after normal tour in cases of emergencies

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Serving as a firefighting crew member protecting life and property; 2. Acting as a first responder to medical emergencies; 3. Instructing others in firefighting tasks or job techniques in accordance with established procedures and practices; and 4. Providing advice or recommendations on operations, training, equipment and facilities maintenance, or fire prevention activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). In addition to above, to qualify for this position incumbents must possess a state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic license and Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor II Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations, Confined Space Rescue, Rope 1, Vehicle Extrication, and Emergency Vehicle Operations certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical CareFire SuppressionManaging Human ResourcesTeaching Others Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
