Work is assigned on a long-term, as well as on a day-to-day basis, and the incumbent has full latitude in processing work assignments and is normally expected to use own judgment and initiative in completing assignments.

Duties
The Electrical Supervisor must be highly proficient in leadership to build an efficient and effective team with exceptional managerial skills for office administrative applications. The Electrical Supervisor must have the ability to perform all normal duties of a Journeyman Electrician. Incumbent must have sufficient knowledge of the nurse call system, fire alarm system and other electronic equipment that he can effectively manage the operations of the systems. The Electrical Supervisor must be able to implement trade knowledge and electrical principles to repair or replace 120/208 or 277/480 volt primary and secondary distribution systems. The incumbent shall have the ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace complex electrical or electronic system. The incumbent must have the ability to determine the correct sizes of conductors, over current protection, switches, transformers, and generators for proper operation. The Supervisor will have the ability lead employees of the Electrical Unit on how to make emergency connections to restore power or provide temporary power after or during a power outage. The electrical supervisor will understand and manage the correct order and phasing of construction and repair projects to effectively lead and maximize efficiencies in the unit while cooperating and scheduling with other trades. The supervisor will introduce new technologies to the unit to maintain a high level of technical skill among the subordinates and continue to look for ways to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of the unit. The Electrical Supervisor must have a working knowledge of proper troubleshooting techniques and the ability to read building prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and maintenance manuals. The incumbent shall have the ability to lead and interpret to subordinates how to repair complex circuity for equipment with schematics or blueprints. The incumbent must have the ability to lay out jobs and to install complete power distribution and lighting systems; nevertheless, must have the ability to interpret all codes, including but not limited to NEC 70/70E, Life Safety, NFPA 1 and NFPA72.The Supervisor must have the ability to utilize a wide variety of meter readings to lead and manage minor and major troubleshooting electrical issues. The supervisor will have extensive knowledge in the use and proper setup of meters to obtain and use accurate readings from test equipment such as volt meters, ammeters, ohmmeters, watt meters, meggers, phase rotation meters, and power analyzers. He must have a complete knowledge of hand and power tools, such as drill motors, core drills, hydraulic benders, cable pullers, and knockout punches for example. He/she must be able to operate motorized vehicles and heavy equipment required in larger jobs or projects for example; boom trucks, scissor lifts and folk lifts
