Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for an Electronics Engineer, SLD 30/SC (NH-0855-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).
Description:
The primary role of this position is to serve as a senior professional electronics engineer with systems engineering responsibilities in assigned areas. The employee is considered the technical expert for the organization in electronics engineering assignments related to base-level cyberspace infrastructure and Western Range communications systems. They provide technical leadership by planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts to define total network systems, weapons systems, and subsystem requirements, translating those requirements into design criteria, evaluating alternative design approaches, and developing system specifications. The work spans multiple phases of the development process, during which the employee guides and evaluates the design and development activities of others. Additionally, they are recognized as a functional/technical expert by colleagues within the organization and are regularly sought out for advice and assistance. The employee actively pursues or creates certification, qualification, and developmental programs for themselves and others. They also guide and motivate individuals and teams, focusing on project and program issues, and take ownership of processes and products as needed. Their problem-solving skills are applied to diverse, highly complex problems across multiple disciplines, and they establish precedents to enhance existing processes.
Ideal Candidate Worksheet:
-Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Systems. ABET accredited
-Familiarity with Network Systems/Design and Western Range instrumentation systems such as telemetry, radar, command transmitter, and communication systems, or experience with similar systems.
-Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to make technical recommendations while under time critical situations. Root cause investigative experience desired.
-Highly self-motivated with ability to adapt and learn.
-Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of professional electronics engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services.
2. Knowledge of development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of network systems, weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
3. Knowledge of integrated air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of network systems, electronic systems and devices.
4. Knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to sustainment, modification, logistics, and production management principles, concepts, policies, and systems; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines.
5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches, and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes.
6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- This position is eligible for telework 2-4 days per pay period.
- PCS and incentives are authorized.
- Position will close in 5 business days or 75 applications.
- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution in Engineering or a closely related field is highly desired
- Will be required to maintain a current driver’s license to operate government vehicles.
- This position may be a cybersecurity position and the employee will need to attain appropriate DoD approved cybersecurity baseline certificate.
