This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of the Chief of Staff (S), Communications and Marketing Division (SC), Public and Media Communications. The incumbent serves as a Public Affairs Specialist and is responsible for researching, creating, writing and disseminating sensitive, critical or complex information for external publics on a wide variety of subjects in support of NARA's mission.
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
- Plan, develop, and communicate the organization's programs, policies, and activities on national, regional and local levels.
- Maintain subject matter expertise on the knowledge of current events and potential news items in the organization through liaison with program managers and maintaining awareness of changes in legislation and regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of the print and broadcast media.
- Provide expert guidance, assistance and consultation to business units, field offices and Presidential Libraries concerning organization procedures relating to responding to specific requests from media or the general public, specialized groups and community and governmental entities using NARA services.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Providing support and assistance to senior staff in implementing an organization's communications and media relations or public affairs programs, policies, and operations; AND
- Designing informational and educational materials for the promotion of an organization; AND
- Collaborating with a team to manage frequently changing priorities concerning the development and dissemination of information to internal and external stakeholders.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.
