This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Salem VA Medical Center (VAMC), Extended Care Service Line, Salem, VA. As a regular recurring duty, the Physiologist, organizationally known as the Exercise Physiologist, independently carries out highly specialized and diversified restorative physical fitness therapeutic care programs for a diverse Veteran population with a multitude of diagnoses in a variety of clinical areas at the Salem VAMC.
Duties
DUTIES:
Knowledge of selection, administration, and interpretation of physical performance tests in order to assess physical function.
Knowledge of basic life support to assess and adequately initiate basic life support as needed during day to day program activities.
Professional knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices in the scientific area to support the program's clinical activities, particularly in the area of aging-related clinical or epidemiologic changes.
Knowledge in Exercise Physiology in order to develop, design, and conduct an exercise program.
Knowledge of pathophysiology of various cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic diseases and knowledge of basic physiological effects of specific drugs in order to take these factors into consideration in the design of the exercise program.
Knowledge and skill in the use of statistical and database software, e.g., SAS, ACCESS, to set up databases and perform complex data analyses; and ability to perform complex analytical studies and interpretation of results to coordinate the evaluation of medical/scientific programs and policies and to recommend improvements.
Knowledge and skill in data management operations, computer software, and use of programs, such as WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, Power Point, Outlook and specialized databases to extract and organize data, produce letters, memorandums, and to prepare a variety of specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheet, database, word processing, desktop publishing, graphics, and other similar products.
Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to make presentations, explain recommendations, represent the Medical Center and assigned program areas, provide guidance, advise program administrators, and respond to inquiries.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
