The Federal Housing Finance Agency, Office of Inspector General (FHFA-OIG) promotes the economy, efficiency, and integrity of FHFA's programs and operations by conducting audits, investigations, evaluations, and reviews and recommending courses of action designed to support FHFA's mission of ensuring a safe and sound mortgage finance system that provides reliable liquidity and funding for housing finance and community investment.
Duties
The position is in the Office of Chief Counsel.
The following are the duties of this position at the EL-14 (equivalent to the GS-14). However, if you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Write memoranda of law, client correspondence, or notes, after researching statutory and case law.
- Review policies, procedures, regulations, technical manuals, and other agency publications for legal sufficiency.
- Act as legal counsel to the head of major operating programs of FHFA-OIG, to include research and consultation on legal aspects of audits, evaluations, and investigations undertaken by FHFA-OIG divisions.
- Prepare and present cases before administrative tribunals and acting as agency counsel for cases in federal court.
- Review the legal aspects of audits, evaluations, and investigations performed by FHFA-OIG and ensure that legal and factual elements of cases involving fiscal, or program irregularities, criminal fraud, or employee wrongdoing are independently researched.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation; and
Be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state or territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. In addition, applicants must meet the following specialized experience requirements:
Specialized experience for the EL-14: You must have at least seven years of professional legal experience.
Specialized experience for the EL-13: You must have at least five years of professional legal experience.
