The position is located in the Operations, Investigations, or Adjudications Division, Office of Personnel Security and Suitability, Diplomatic Security Service, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, U.S. Department of State. You will be responsible for determining the initial and continuing eligibility of personnel for access to classified National Security Information, Sensitive but Unclassified information and access to intelligence information.
Duties
Conducts investigations and evaluates results for compliance with prescribed standards and criteria, ensuring sufficiency of coverage of often complex and controversial investigative information .
Manages the investigative leads assignment process assuring that investigative suspense dates are met and reviews completed reports to ensure compliance with
policy.
Prepares evaluations of investigations against national level criteria for investigative sufficiency and for suitability /security adjudication.
Assists other personnel in the proper processing of cases, as the information reviewed is extremely sensitive, and its unauthorized release is prohibited by Federal statute.

- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience evaluating the results of background investigations for compliance with prescribed standards and criteria while ensuring sufficiency of coverage;
- Experience managing investigative leads, assuring that investigative suspense dates are met, and reviewing completed reports for compliance with policy;
- Experience preparing evaluations of investigations against national level criteria for investigative sufficiency and for suitability/security adjudication;
- Experience making recommendations concerning the issuance of security clearance or public trust certification based on disclosed information from referrals and background investigations.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
