This position serves as Supply Technician for the Expendable Supplies Division of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. As a Supply Technician, you will provide service lines and other hospital facilities with medical supplies and instrument.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory location for all clinical and administrative service.
Monitors expirations dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
Supports managers in checking inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory Management Specialists.
Preforms daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.
Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems such as GIP.
Support wall-to-wall and periodic inventories.
Receives supplies and material into system (VA Health Care System) and supported catchment area.
Unpacks/uncrates supplies form shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas.
Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory systems, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system.
As needed, assists in other functional areas of the Section and performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, with one Weekend per month, Rotating Schedule (1st and/or 2nd Shifts available)

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

General Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to at least one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level of Federal service.Qualifying specialized experience includes: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. If you are qualifying on education, transcripts are required. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Must have a combination of general experience and education beyond equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. If you qualify by a combination, your experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, benching and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
