Duties
Global Markets (GM) Asia manages International Trade Administration (ITA) policy and programmatic work that expands U.S. jobs by promoting commerce across the Indo-Pacific Region with overall direction from the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Asia. The Office of South Asia covers India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
As a Supervisory International Trade Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
Effective administration of the office and its functions, including providing strategic direction to Desk Officers on GM Asia's engagement with the U.S. interagency, external stakeholders such as U.S. companies and industry associations, and officials from countries in their portfolio.
Leading GM Asia and Department participation in key bilateral and/or multilateral cooperation mechanisms, providing ongoing direction to the Office of South Asia's Desk Officers responsible for each respective mechanism, and ensuring appropriate briefing and preparation of senior officials representing the Department in such mechanisms.
Developing program goals and objectives for the Office of South Asia, including resource allocation to specific projects and project scheduling.
Maintaining and improving performance of the Office of South Asia staff, detailees, and interns.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-15 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Prior experience analyzing and negotiating trade, economic, or commercial, and foreign affairs policy related to one of the major countries in Asia; AND Developing policy or strategy recommendations for U.S. trade, economic or, commercial, and foreign affairs engagement with other countries; AND Building consensus positions through the U.S. government interagency process to advocate support for, or the adoption of the Department's approaches and positions to U.S. engagement with partner nations; AND Communicating information, both orally and written, regarding relevant trade, economic, or commercial, and foreign affairs issues or legislation to senior or high-ranking officials inside and outside the government; AND Experience leading a team and/or supervising staff.
