Duties
Lead and conduct classes for active duty, civilians and visiting personnel in public safety.
Recommend substantive changes to training program through development and modification of training to address changes in the use of firefighting and rescue equipment, types and nature of hazards, and/or changes in mission.
Develop and conduct structural drill both daytime and nighttime for each shift at an appropriate site.
Develop/conduct the training program for the Fire Department, which includes the training of firefighting personnel in a full range of fire protection and prevention techniques, Emergency Medical Program, and HAZMAT Operations.
Develop/conduct the training program for the Fire Department to include Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)special rescue procedures and other emergency operations functions.
Deliver comprehensive training program for firefighters and fire prevention personnel.
Review all available sources of information on firefighting and prevention to include new equipment training, contacting sources throughout the government and private industry regarding regulations, handbooks etc.
Utilize the Emergency Reporting electronic database to maintain training records and other appropriate forms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs and requires pre-employment and random drug screening.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- This position requires a valid state and government's driver's license.
- Incumbent is required to work 60 hours per week (120 hours bi-weekly) which may include at least one 24-hour shift and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This is a mission essential position.
- Incumbent has six months from date of employment to transfer State Emergency Medical Tech certs to National Registry Emergency Medical Technician. Must maintain current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (CPR and AED) certification card.
- Incumbent must obtain DoD, IFSAC, or Pro-Board Certifications for Apparatus Driver/Operator – Pumper and Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS) within one year from date of employment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Employee must maintain current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (CPR and AED) certification card.

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes1) developing training requirements in accordance with fire prevention guidelines; 2) preparing lesson plans and summaries for general training; 3) performing firefighting activities, search and rescue, crash/rescue operations, responding to HAZMAT incidents and responding to medical emergencies. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
