This position is located in the Correspondence Control Unit (CCU) which is located in the Immediate Office of the Director in Washington, DC. This is not a remote work position. The area of consideration is limited to applicants residing within the local commuting area (i.e. within a 50-mile radius of listed duty station). Duties

The major duties of the Correspondence Program Specialist include, but are not limited to: Serves as an experienced technical specialist providing reliable support on all matters pertaining to recording, tasking, assigning, tracking, reviewing, formatting, coordinating, and managing all NPS correspondence, publications, and documents directed to, or signed by, the Director or Department executives. This includes utilizing an automated system to ensure that all NPS correspondence items are tasked, assigned, and routed to the appropriate directorate or region, as well as other Bureaus/Offices, ensuring visibility and awareness of the progress toward project completion, and ensuring that each NPS correspondence item is consistently tracked, processed, prepared, transmitted, properly closed out, and retained as appropriate. Independently and accurately ensures compliance with good writing practices and conformance with established policies and guidelines and prescribed formats. Advanced ability to communicate succinctly and concisely in writing. Advanced ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with individuals at all levels, to exchange information, discuss administrative matters, and to gain understanding and cooperation in matters related to correspondence. Advanced ability to acquire information on a variety of subjects in completing assignments, requiring a high level of discernment, including the development, analysis, and presentation of appropriate information. This includes having or quickly gaining extensive knowledge of the mission, functions, and programs of the NPS, including organization structure and areas of responsibility. Advanced ability to provide training in NPS correspondence processes and the automated control system. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/18/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: 1) Communicating clearly and directly to achieve correspondence objectives; 2) Coordinating and gathering information from stakeholders; 3) Managing deadlines, risks, constraints, and stakeholder needs while resolving challenges; 4) Applying proper grammar, sentence structure, syntax, and Departmental style guidelines to the process of writing, reviewing, and editing of federal correspondence products; and 5) Implementing department correspondence control, tracking, and management protocols, procedures, and practices associated with a correspondence control system. You must include hours per week worked. OR To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: 1) Communicating clearly and directly to achieve correspondence objectives; 2) Coordinating and gathering information from stakeholders; 3) Managing deadlines, risks, constraints, and stakeholder needs while resolving challenges; 4) Applying proper grammar, sentence structure, syntax, and Departmental style guidelines to the process of writing, reviewing, and editing of federal correspondence products; 5) Implementing department correspondence control, tracking, and management protocols, procedures, and practices associated with a correspondence control system; and 6) Communicate department correspondence policy or publication guidelines to external stakeholders. You must include hours per week worked. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
