This position is part of the Security and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington,
District of Columbia.
Duties
Receives input and updated training regarding the credentialing inspection processes.
Receives, records, and monitors samples of returned secure credentials suspected to be defective, and records manufacturing floor waste from Federal Agencies for inspection.
Verifies quality of secure credentials using sampling inspection techniques by monitoring quality of the product, looking for defects and implements more intensive product inspections, as needed.
Assists with the preparation and transportation of production materials for timely mailing/fulfillment of secure credentials.
Visually examines each secure credential for defects and utilizes specialized equipment to ensure credentials are not defective.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must successfully pass pre-employment requirements prior to appointment.

- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Document Inspection Technician, PG -1801-7, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience at the PG-05 (or equivalent) level or higher. The specialized experience for this position is identified as: 1. Work in a production environment and/or quality control environment.
2. Work in a manufacturing environment with quality inspection responsibilities. 3. Interpret and apply product specifications, technical data, regulations, and other guideline materials to interpret and classify secure credential defects. 4. Record data from forms, using writing techniques, and briefing the appropriate officials as needed.
OR
1 full year of graduate level education - One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
OR
I have a combination of education and experience. The total percentages equal at least 100 percent.
OR
Superior academic achievement is a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement for two-grade interval positions in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position.
S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2years of the curriculum.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may be used for this grade level.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
