This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The position is located with the Logistic Readiness Center in Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.
Duties
Performs a combination of maintenance, repair, fabricate, modification, equipment operation, fire apparatus and emergency technical equipment repairs.
Inspects and repairs a variety of equipment such as bulldozers, front end loaders, armored personnel carriers, , generators, electrical motors, electric and hydraulic forklifts/pallet movers.
Repairs and services a variety of firefighting and emergency equipment such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, crash/rescue trucks.
Performs specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems for and replacement of standard components.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with P endorsement or CDL Class A within 1 year from the Entrance on Duty (EOD).
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a valid an Emergency Vehicles Technician Certification Commission (EVT) Level II certification within 2 years from the Entrance on Duty (EOD).
- A 2-year service agreement after the Emergency Vehicles Technician Certification Commission (EVT) Level II certification is obtained will be required or be responsible for the repayment of such certification to the organization.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential": the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. to include include 1) perform routine or schedule maintenance on Emergency Vehicle 2) repairs and/or replaces components in drive trains, suspensions, fuel systems 3) repair braking system include both pneumatic and hydraulic components. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods; work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Frequently works on top of and under vehicles in cramped, awkward positions. Required to do strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 60 plus pounds, and often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices, such as hoists, jacks, and cranes.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in various weather conditions. Shop areas are frequently inadequately heated and cooled. Subject to drafts, noise, dust, heat, fumes, dirt, and grease. Stands and lies on hard, damp surfaces. Parts and systems are usually dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to possibility of cuts, bruises, and strain, as well as burns and skin irritations from acids and fluids. Must wear safety shoes and other safety/protective items as may be prescribed.
