You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS LINE DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Duties
You will assists in environmental investigations by collecting and preserving samples, placing and operating automated samplers, and making field notes and sketches of storm drain/sanitary sewer system conditions.
You will assist with contract delivery orders and records.
You will conduct investigation in support of environmental programs.
You will instruct customers in the proper sample handling methods.
You will perform support work for qualitative and quantitative chemical and microbiological analysis.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Position requires a medical evaluation upon entry into the position and annually thereafter.
- Must have a valid State drivers license to operate a sampling collection vehicle.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications
Outside applicants claiming VEOA, Military Spouse under EO 13473, Disability, and Interchange Eligibles (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service) must meet specialized experience requirements equivalent to the A. GS-08 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Assist in environmental investigations by collecting and preserving samples for drinking water and hazardous waste; 2)Compose field and laboratory data and interpret the results; 3) Apply safe handling procedures for bacteriological and hazardous chemicals; and 4) Maintain a daily log for record keeping to document regulatory compliance and generate reports.
Applicants who are current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service employees must meet specialized experience requirements equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1)Develop field and laboratory data and interpret the results; 2) Apply safe handling procedures for bacteriological and hazardous chemicals; and 3) Maintain a daily log for record keeping to document regulatory compliance and generate reports.

Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree.
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent
