You will serve as a LEAD PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Radiological Waterfront Operations Manager (105.3A) of the Radiological Monitoring Division (105.3) in the Radiological Controls NNSY Waterfront (105.1W) that is located in the Radiological Control Office (Code 105), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will conduct continuous surveillance of work involving radiological controls and radioactive materials to ensure adherence to establish, policies, procedures, and sound radiological control concepts.
You will identify, correct, and document deficient conditions or work practices to prevent elevated radiological impact.
You will provide on the job mentoring and arrange training for junior radiological control technicians.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Must be a qualified Radiological Control Technician (RCT) or Article 108 qualified.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying knowledge of theoretical and practical matters related to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program including health physics, applied radiological controls, abnormal situation response, training of junior technicians on technical skills, theories and radiological work practices.
Experience providing on-scene radiological control responses for actual or potential radiological emergencies, casualties, training exercises and proficiency drills.
Experience applying knowledge of physical science principles, theories, methodologies and techniques of radiological control requirements.
Experience applying knowledge of Naval Nuclear work processes, trade operations and regulatory requirements to effectively plan and coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate radiological controls.
Experience training, mentoring and coaching lesser experienced technicians, Ship's Force and other personnel on radiological controls as applied to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
