Duties

The position is a Maintenance Mechanic Leader for the Blue Ridge Parkway. The position will serve the James River Sub-District with the duty station located in Big Island, Virginia (Bedford County). The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and provide daily work direction to employees to meet objectives. Incumbent is engaged in performing a variety of complex repairs, maintenance, adjustments, modifications and preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment, and system. Area/Duty Station Information The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Big Island (Bedford County), Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the James River Maintenance Area, which is located in Bedford, Virginia, approximately 20 miles from Lynchburg, Virginia. Bedford boasts the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north, Smith Mountain Lake to the south, Lynchburg to the east, and Roanoke to the west. Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.
