About the Position: Serves as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist assigned to the US Army Medical Center of Excellence, which also includes regular combat readiness training with live fire exercises at Camp Bullis, position is located at Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Duties

Analyzes a wide variety of safety problems and develops courses of action to minimize or eliminate hazardous operations and devises alternative measures to meet unconventional circumstances, which increase the risk of an accident. Independently initiates action within the assigned area conferring with other specialists in interfacing occupational fields. Evaluates unconventional work operations and new materials by deviating from established practices and extending sound safety criteria consistent with accomplishing the mission objectives in a safe manner. Devise new analytical procedures to identify and assess maintenance hazards, potential adverse effects of ammunition and explosives, potential hot and cold related illness and injuries, and fire protection requirements. Assist in comprehensive safety and occupational health program for the Army Medical Center of Excellence and provide guidance to units/activities in occupational safety and health.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a NACI/T1 security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
  • Position may require employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Incumbent must have the Career Program (CP) 12 Professional Certificate, or complete Level 1 Skills certification outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan and are be awarded the CP 12 Professional Certificate within 12 months of hire.
  • Physical exam may be required.
  • All Employees assigned to a MTF are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
