About the Position: This position is in Travis Air Force Base Directorate of Clinical Support, Clinical Laboratory. The David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base, CA, is the United States Air Force's largest medical center in the continental US and serves military beneficiaries throughout eight western states.
Duties
Assist the supervisor with detailed review of protocol submission and determines if it meets administrative requirements for format, grammar, and spelling.
Provide specialized clerical and office support of medical research (Human and Animal) and graduate medical readiness training projects.
Maintain files, documentation, and database information.
Provide advice and assistance to investigators, Clinical Investigation Facility (CIF) staff, and medical center personnel regarding procedural requirements for submitting research materials and documents.
Review and process Protocol applications in Institutional Review Board
(eIRB) automated system.
Provide administrative assistance and support for review board/committee meetings. Prepares Institutional Review Board (IRB) agenda.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5 % of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes using office automation software, databases, spreadsheets, graphic presentations, email and word processing; performing administrative and clerical functions that includes composing correspondence/reports using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and file maintenance.

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
