You will serve as a TECHNICIAN in the Cast Propellant Production Branch (M21) of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-2 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-05/GS-08 and NT-3 encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09/10. The FPL NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11/12. NT-02: $40,351-$80,510 NT-03: $61,933-$97,925

Duties

You will assist with projects that develop, monitor, and improve processes related to the manufacture of energetic materials including cast-composite propellants and solvent-based propellants. You will review tests and test results and recommends process improvements in order to optimize processing of energetic materials. You will develop manufacturing processes for energetic material processing. You will assist engineers with editing documentation, presenting quality results, researching process equipment, and process leading. You will support a manufacturing organization. You will be required to report to the duty location advertised in the announcement on a regular and reoccurring basis. Occasional telework options may be available.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in an office environment as well as an energetic manufacturing plant/lab setting.

Qualifications

FOR NT-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-02 (GS-05 through GS-08 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying technical engineering procedures, practices or methods to complete a variety of standardized tests for the development or improvement of current processes related to the manufacture of propellants. FOR NT-02: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band, NT-01 (GS-01 through GS-04 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications to perform technical engineering work.
