About the Position: The incumbent serves as a library technician in the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library.
Duties
As a Library Technician, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Assist the Cataloging Librarian by performing preliminary cataloging of library materials.
Process materials by typing spine labels and adding bar codes.
Perform periodic inventories of library collections.
Circulate library resources to faculty, staff researchers and other library patrons to provide customer service.
Perform circulation desk duties such as charging and discharging materials using the automated circulation system, registering customers, and answering questions.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 26 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- The incumbent may be required to work irregular hours of duty to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For the GS-5 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing library services such as circulation and shelving books/materials; assisting clientele with routine inquiries on library matters such as borrowing; and utilizing automated databases to access, enter, retrieve, or correct routine information related to a library's collection.

Education: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of ALL of your transcripts for verification.)

TIG for the GS-05 Grade Level: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
