This is a position in the Clinical Center Nursing Department Sterile Processing Service (SPS) as a Lead Medical Supply Technician in the Clinical Center, Nursing Department (CCND). The Lead Medical Supply Technician is considered to be at the advanced performance level with respect to sterile processing. The Lead will serve as the subject matter expert to guide staff through the proper procedures. The incumbent will provide guidance and technical direction for accomplishing the team's work.
Duties
The major duties for the position include, but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent leads a team of Medical Supply Technicians and is responsible to the supervisor for ensuring the work assignments of the other employees of the team.
The Lead is responsible for all activities that occur in the department during their tour of duty.
Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to the supervisor.
Report to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, as well as behavior problems.
Decontaminates a full range of reusable surgical instruments, scopes, and medical devices used in the operating rooms and in-patient care within the Clinical Center.
Loads and operates instrument washers, scope cleaning machines, steam, gas, and low-temperature sterilizers, and other cleaning equipment.
Documents and maintains sterilization records as specified by NIH and Clinical Center policies and procedures and in accordance with industry standards.
Prepares the full range of instrument sets, trays, or kits by selecting the appropriate method of sterilization.
Provides daily cleaning and testing as well as routine care and maintenance of all processing equipment according to policies and procedures and with manufacturer's guidelines to ensure proper functioning and safe operation of medical devices and equipment.
Requirements

- This position requires nights, holidays, and weekend shifts.
- The Lead Medical Supply Technician primary shift is M-F 2:30pm-11:00pm. May be required to work other shifts as needed.
Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-08 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: leading staff members and managing workflow; processing, assembling, cleaning, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment; testing medical equipment to determine if its operating correctly after having been cleaned and reassembled; and examining sterilized trays; sets, packs, and equipment from the sterilizer to ensure adherence to organizational manufacturing quality control procedures.
