Clinical Center, Nursing Department (CCND) is looking for Medical Supply Technicians who has experience in sterile processing, assembling, troubleshooting, and sterilizing medical devices and equipment to join our team at NIH. As a Medical Supply Technician, you will decontaminate, clean, prepare, sterilize, and issue sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment, so please make sure to highlight and thoroughly describe your medical supply technician experience in your resume.

Duties

The positions are in the Clinical Center, Nursing Department (CCND), Sterile Processing Service. The Sterile Processing Service provides sterilization and high-level disinfection of flexible scopes, instruments, and medical devices. The major duties for the position include, but are not limited to the following: Decontaminating the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used on the patient care units in the Clinical Center. Removing soil, dried blood, tissue fragments, proteinaceous material, and other gross contaminants from medical equipment by washing, soaking, rinsing, and use of ultrasonic equipment. Disassembling and re-assembling medical equipment to complete elimination of dried blood particles or other proteinaceous material on the working parts and in chambers of tubing. Documenting and maintaining sterilization records as specified by NIH and Clinical Center policies and procedures and in accordance with industry standards. Disassembling and inspecting for damage reusable medical supplies, instruments, and equipment, where the internal parts may become contaminated. Selecting correct sterilizing or cleaning cycles based on the items being cleaned or sterilized.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date of this announcement, including time in grade.

  • This position requires weekend hours, night shifts, regular or rotational shifts, and holiday hours.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift and move items weighing up to 35 lbs.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-07 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: processing, assembling, decontaminating, cleaning, preparing, sterilizing, storing and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment; Decontaminating reusable medical supplies and equipment; using aseptic and sterilization techniques on medical equipment and instruments; compare medical equipment control test results after sterilization period to ensure correct parameters were obtained; testing medical equipment to determine if it is operating correctly after having been cleaned and reassembled; and examining sterilized trays, sets, packs, and equipment from the sterilizer to ensure adherence to organizational manufacturing quality control procedures.
