The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. The duties described by this position may not fully meet the type of work to be performed or there may be work that this position does not do in each of the specialties; however, if the general intent is met then this position is appropriate.
Duties
This position requires skills applied to the maintenance, stabilization, restoration, repair and/or reconstruction of various historic and non-historic structures that range widely in historic period, architectural style, construction materials and existing condition.
Perform a variety of basic trade tasks often combining trade practices such as carpentry, painting and roofing.
Carpentry duties require the incumbent to measure, cut, construct, install, repair and reproduce wooden historic building elements on frame, timber or log structures including windows, doors, flooring and molding.
Will use traditional and modern hand tools to obtain finished surfaces typical of those found on existing historic wooden surfaces.
Clean and prepare historic materials for re-use in preservation work.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Screen Out: Have experience performing the full range of duties of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-07 without more than normal supervision.
This experience is defined as: 1) basic competence in the carpentry, roofing and painting trades; 2)ability to safely use hand and power tools of the trades listed (carpentry, roofing, painting); 3) knowledge to perform a basic visual examination to identify original historic fabric in the context of a historic structure; 4) follow written and oral instruction; 5) ability to demonstrate a general knowledge of and to follow current OSHA regulations/procedures and trade code requirements applicable to buildings and their maintenance and construction; 6) ability to obtain a basic knowledge of the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and obtain knowledge of the National Park Service policies, guidelines and procedures for the preservation and conservation of historic structures.
