The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. The duties described by this position may not fully meet the type of work to be performed or there may be work that this position does not do in each of the specialties; however, if the general intent is met then this position is appropriate.
Duties
Duties:
Assists supervisor and or journeymen in the conservation and preservation work of stone and metal monuments, markers and plaques commemorating the Battle of Gettysburg
Operates hydraulic man-lift, engine driven poser washing equipment, and motor vehicles up to 1 ton, and pulls trailers not to exceed 3000 pounds.
Cleans stone and bronze monuments, plaques, etc by power washing and or walnut shell blasting.
Preserves monuments by cleaning with power washer and waxing with hot/cold wax preparations.
Mixes and blends formula for hot wax treatments from precise and complete instructions.
Uses hand tools to assist journeymen in mortar removal and re-pointing.
Builds and removes scaffold.
Manually re-grades areas surrounding monuments using shovels rakes etc.
All work conducted safely using personal protective equipment and clothing.
Tracks time on assigned tasks.

SCREEN OUT: Have experience performing the full range of duties of a Maintenance Worker (MVO), WG 4749 07. Consulted by other workers because of my expertise performing the more than unusual and complex duties of the trade, especially in situations where more than ordinary skills are required. Have knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to independently complete conservation and preservation work of stone and metal monuments, markers, and plaques. Examples include: 1) removing of mortar; 2) repair of pointing; 3) forming lead pointing; 4) repairing lead joints of monuments; 5) cleaning stone and bronze monuments and plaques by power washing and/or walnut shell blasting; and 6) applying wax treatments to historic bronze pieces.
