Duties
The selectee will serve as a Civil Engineer in The Office of Technical Development and Mission Support, Technical Security Division. Typical work assignments include:
Communicating immediately with the contracting officer for any issues which will impact performance, schedule or terms and conditions under a contract. Initiates corrective action on contract performance through a partnership with the contracting officer.
Serving as a knowledgeable technical advisor to the USSS and other government agencies, as well as contractor personnel, particularly regarding Civil Engineering, Structural building analysis and design, vehicle and pedestrian barriers, explosive effects analysis and design, building and general construction.
Providing continuing program management by assisting with the development of operational requirements, and preparing structural analysis, designs, schedules and cost estimates. Prepares technical briefing materials for stakeholders, end-users and operational personnel. Provides informational briefings for supervisors and non technical personnel.
Apply for this exciting opportunity to The Office of Technical Development and Mission Support, Technical Security Division is seeking to hire talented individuals to provide overall program and project planning, coordination, management, and quality assurance for interrelated technical areas including, but not limited to: chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives (CBRNE) threat detection and countermeasures; infrastructure protection; and protective equipment for CBRNE safety.
This Civil Engineer position starts at a salary of $99,200.00, GS-12, step 1, with promotion potential to $153,354.00 GS-13, step 10.
Qualifications
To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Minimum Qualification requirements as listed below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $99,200) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as:
Preparing operational and maintenance specifications and guides for end-users.
Preparing training and technical briefing materials for end-users on the use, installation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
Providing informational briefings for supervisors as well as non-technical personnel.
You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as:
Applying comprehensive civil engineering theories, concepts, principles, standards, and
methods.
Evaluating capabilities or vulnerabilities associated with civil engineering projects and discipline-specific topics.
Providing consultative advice on the feasibility and application of new scientific studies and major advances in protective and/or investigative civil engineering technologies.
