This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Biological Control of Pests Research Unit in Stoneville, MS.
In this position, you will apply practical knowledge of the principles of engineering, policies, and programs to lay out, schedule, organize, and execute the details of a wide variety of operational projects.
Duties
Plan, install, and calibrate instrumentation for collecting research data.
Determine the cause of deviations in test data, such as equipment malfunctions, sampling technique, or observational errors.
Assemble complex precision instruments and devices including 3D printers.
Assist the research scientist in making accurate research interpretations and drawing accurate conclusions.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-07:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assembling or repairing engineering equipment; using software systems to analyze or prepare data; and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
OR
A combination of education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-08:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assembling or repairing engineering equipment; utilizing prototyping tools or modeling software; and performing field maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operation.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-09:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience developing or designing various aspects of a research project; building or designing equipment to meet experimental research goals; and operating a 3D printer.
OR
Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
