About the Position: This position is with A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), formerly Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, within Directorate of Surgery in the Department of Perioperative Nursing, Sterile Processing & Distribution. This position is located in Fort Belvoir, VA.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Perform daily quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
Select appropriate chemical or washing agent necessary for decontaminating or cleaning surgical instruments.
Assemble, inspect and package instrumentation appropriately by their instruction of use.
Sterile storage of instrumentation, pulling case carts, inventory stock, removing or replacing damaged supplies/sets.
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the Department of Health, The Joint Commission, OSHA and other industry standards and regulations, as well as those of medical treatment facility.
Check the expiration date on all sterile supply items, removes all outdated items, and rotate the stock.
Inventory emergency procedural carts, scanned into instrument tracking system and lock with proper lock.
Replenish case carts to retain the established quota level for each item on the cart.
Interpret test results, take appropriate action based on results and log all results.
Requirements
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment; 2) Assembling instrument trays and devices for surgical procedures; and 3) Issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
