About the Position: Incumbent is responsible for processing, preparing and distributing the complete range of clean and sterile surgical and clinic instruments required for patient care, including instrument trays and sets used in the full range of surgical operations.

Duties
Perform daily quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
Decontamination: Scan instruments for use in or requested for procedures, upon arrival in decontamination to issue to serviced hospital department. e.g., surgery, clinics or wards.
Assembly and Inspection: Account for and process surgical instruments to include complex loaner sets for scheduled and emergent cases.
Sterilization: Select the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.
Sterile Storage/Issue: Ensure appropriate climate control measures are maintained.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires incumbent to routinely lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment; assembling instrument trays and devices for surgical procedures; and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
