Duties
As a Computer Scientist you will:
Provide technical leadership and expertise to agency and state, territorial, local, and tribal (STLT) public health partners in the development, dissemination, and implementation of modernized information systems, reusable technology and services, and data management standards, guidance, methods, and solutions.
Provide specialized expertise in computer science, computer system architecture, information systems, and data management across the data lifecycle to enable core missions of public health to detect and monitor, investigate, and respond, and inform and disseminate.
Provide expert technical advice and assistance on public health information systems within and outside of the agency and serves as a center expert in new and emerging information technology tools, platforms, and methods.
Provide consultation and advice on new information technologies to the division and our public health partners working on systems and information technologies that need to exchange data with organization/agency.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing consultation and direction to multidisciplinary teams on the design, development, implementation, governance, and maintenance of complex information systems used to collect, link, and manage large complex datasets for public health research and surveillance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to
