About the Position: Serve as a senior Forensic Document Analyst assigned to the Pattern Evidence Division Forensic Document Branch of the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory (USACIL), an organization responsible for providing forensic laboratory support to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) criminal investigation organizations and legal agencies, as well as other federal and non-federal agencies.
Duties
Document findings in scientific research format.
Review evidence to determine the proper approach and sequence of examinations.
Plan and carries out research projects.
Conduct examinations by using specialized equipment to include microscopic, digital and photographic processes etc.
Examine evidence and renders accurate expert opinions on the full range of document examinations
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- TDY travel up to 15% will be required in response to crime scenes, courts, and life-cycle training.
- A pre-employment form blindness test is also required prior to employment. Must have normal color vision; normal ability to distinguish shades of color; and normal ability to perceive and remember forms.
- Pre-employment physical is required. Must obtain and pass medical examination prior to employment.
- Must participate in DNA database within the USACIL

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: leading forensic document examinations, completing and maintaining evidence accountability; participating in evidence review and presenting examination results.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: physical and biological sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or law.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting forensic document examinations, completing and maintaining evidence accountability; Examining evidence and rendering accurate expert opinions on the full range of document findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
