This position is located within the Forest Service, Business Operations, Office of Safety & Occupational Health, Casualty Assistance Program (CAP). The incumbent is responsible for regional administrative management of the CAP program and organizing program policies and procedures, and certification standards and requirements. Duties

Provides regional coordination, leadership and execution of needed direction, guidance, and oversight of death and serious injury. Liaison between the Forest Service and family members during incidents, casualties and injuries. Implements national policy, objectives, and standards for assigned program. Participates in the development of technical and policy direction and guidance, training, and oversight. Assists with the regional Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) program in support of the Regional Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

  • This position is remote eligible. You will be required to sign a remote work agreement and be responsible for ensuring the approved remote worksite has adequate internet service, connectivity, and other general utility costs at your own expense.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: leading and executing direction, guidance, and oversight of death and serious injury related benefits and dignified customer; and/or implementing national policy, objectives, and standards for assigned program and developing long and short-range plans; and/or participating in the development of technical and policy direction and guidance, training, oversight, coordination, and reports; and/or assisting with the regional critical incident stress management program. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
